Windows 7 Tips
Here is a collection of some useful Windows 7 tips I've found.
- If you have multiple editions of Windows 7, check out How to Select Any Edition or Version (SKU) of Windows 7 to Install From Single Edition DVD Disc Media or ISO on My Digital Life.
- If you purchased an upgrade, but need to install it on a clean drive, read Clean Install Windows 7 with Upgrade Media by Paul Thurrott. Methods 1 & 2 worked for me.
- If you purchased the student edition and need to make a bootable DVD, read How to make a DVD of that student-only Windows 7 you bought for $29.99 on Download Squad
- Learn the new Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts from The Master List of New Windows 7 Shortcuts on Lifehacker
- Customize your Windows 7 logon screen with the Tweaks.com Logon Changer for Windows 7
- After a clean install of windows, re-install multiple applications in one step using Ninite
- If you want to fine tune User Account Control in Windows 7, check out Fine Tune User Account Control from TweakWin7.com. The section titled "Tuning User Account Control with Local Group Policy Editor" shows how to change the advanced UAC options.
- Disable unnecessary services as shown in the Windows 7 Services Guide on Smallvoid.com
- If you have a netbook or just a slower computer, check out Fine Tune Windows 7 on Netbooks on TweakWin7.com for some tips on improving performance.
- Unless you really need it, disable IPv6 as shown in the article How To Properly Disable IPv6 on TweakWin7.com. I personally do not see IPv6 ever being implemented thanks to NAT routers.
